Boeing Partners With AI Company SparkCognition On Integration Of Autonomous Aircraft

Top aerospace company Boeing is partnering with artificial intelligence company SparkCognition. Their goal, develop traffic management solutions that will also use blockchain technologies to track unmanned vehicles.

Estimates have the urban aerial mobility market around $3 trillion, according to Amir Husain, SparkCognition’s found and CEO.

Commenting on the partnership with Boeing, Amir said, “The world’s number one aviation leader partnering with the world’s most innovative industrial AI company means that unparalleled experience in safety, innovation, scale, and reliability will be brought to bear to address this monumental opportunity.”

UTM solutions resulting from this collaboration will track vehicles and set traffic routes for the vehicles. This will help them travel in a safe and secure manner. The team will also develop a programming interface for package delivery and inspection of aircraft.

“We’re at a point in history where technological advances and societal trends are converging to demand bold solutions and a different way to travel,” according to Greg Hyslop, Boeing CTO.

The Future: Boeing NeXt

Boeing’s new company, Boeing NeXt, will focus on UTM and next generation travelling solutions. The company created a new video that highlights how artificial intelligence and electric propulsion will work. Furthermore, it will use digital systems to create piloted and autonomous air vehicles.

“Through Boeing NeXt, we intend to build on our legacy of opening up new frontiers to move people and goods with proven technologies,” said Hyslop.

The new company recently introduced the concept of a hypersonic vehicle for passengers. It will possibly have commercial and also military applications.

“We’re excited about the potential of hypersonic technology to connect the world faster than ever before,” according to chief scientist of hypersonics, Kevin Bowcutt. Talking about the timeline for a passenger hypersonic vehicle, Bowcutt says such a vehicle may take flight within 20-30 years.

SparkCognition previously received the backing of Boeing HorizonX Ventures for its cognitive, data-driven analytics platform.

Husain commented on autonomous air traffic systems. He said that autonomy increases the traffic the volume of systems that can perform concurrent operations. It’s often complex and requires the use of AI and blockchain technology at all levels for ensuring “safety, security, optimization and reliability of this future transport system that will involve tens of millions of concurrently operating aircraft of all types. That’s what this partnership is all about.”
